North Carolina Electrical License Renewal

To maintain your electrical license in North Carolina, it’s important to comply with the state’s renewal requirements, which vary depending on your license classification.
  • License Renewal Periods

  • All electrical contractor licenses in North Carolina are valid for one year and must be renewed annually.

  • Continuing Education Requirements

  • Limited (L), Intermediate (I), and Unlimited (U) Licensees:
    Complete 8 hours of continuing education (CE) each year.
    At least 4 of these hours must be completed in a live, instructor-led setting, which can be either in-person or virtual.

  • Special Restricted (SP) Licensees:
    Complete 4 hours of CE each year.
